“The State of Black Health in America” - A National Black Caucus Policy Forum in Seattle, WA.

Tracy Brown, Owner / Principal Consultant participated in the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) “Black Health in America Forum” held in Seattle, Washington on August 4 & 5, 2023. The Black Health in America held an intense day and a half discussion on two major healthcare issues confronting our community with a host of Black legislators from across the country.

The content focused on the impact obesity is having on our community and the hidden cost of Mental Health as determined by research conducted by the Morehouse School of Medicine. Academicians, medical experts, and government agencies whose mission is to monitor these healthcare issues and recommend policy to affect change attended.

Tracy Brown, co-facilitated with Dr. John Vassall, on the “Social Drivers" of Obesity. Tracy introduced the Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) and its interplay between each determinant. Moreover, Tracy provide qualitative and quantitate data to discuss the impact of obesity, hypertension and its impact on women. Finally, Tracy discussed the impact of bias in the healthcare system that prevents quality of care for all, especially African American / Black women who are dying between 3 to 5 times than other women.
